Characteristics

Micro Metering Pump Equipped with Triple Diaphragm and diaphragm monitoring complete with pneumatic stroke actuator and I/P transducer.

These pumps are small metering pumps with hydraulically balanced diaphragms in which the fluid flows isolated from the pumps mechanical side. The pump’s capacity can be adjusted while in operation; they also feature safety valves for excess pressure relief and a refill valve to compensate oil losses, as integral parts of the hydraulic system, all the mechanical system operates in oil bath.

The pumps are used for high precision services that will meter linearly from 0-100% of their rated capacity with errors of less than 1%.

A positive displacement pump

A combination between a plunger pump and a diaphragm pump, the NSP/M is a positive displacement pump in which a high precision piston in an alternating movement displaces a determined quantity of oil and in turn, this oil hydraulically moves the diaphragm, which has the function of separating the liquids, in the same alternating movement. The diaphragm on the opposite side displaces the process liquid through the inlet and outlet check valves.

Features a hydraulically balanced diaphragm

With the oil bath , the piston moves the diaphragm hydraulically and alternatively. The diaphragm, in turn, due to its displacement, pumps the fluid by drawing it up through the suction check valve (during piston’s suction movement) and depressing it through the discharge check valve (during piston’s compression movement). The diaphragm will isolate the product to be pumped, confining it to an area of the pumping chamber and the check valves. These are the only parts of the pump that are in contact with the fluid being pumped.

The NSP/M’s diaphragm has the purpose of a separator between two fluids and it does not operate, is not subjected to load stress and does not pump. The liquid on one side is the product to be pumped, while on the other side is the hydraulic oil. The NSP/M diaphragms available are usually made of two kinds of material: PTFE or polypropylene, but may also be supplied in stainless steel for special purposes.

Materials

  • Pumping Heads1: manufactured in stainless steel 304 or 316, HASTELLOY B or HASTELLOY C, MONEL, and plastic materials such as PVC, PTFE, Polypropylene, and other, subject to future consultation.
  • Diaphragms: manufactured in stainless steel, PTFE or Polypropylene, and other, subject to future consultation.
  • Check valves: manufactured in stainless steel 304 or 316, HASTELLOY B or HASTELLOY C, MONEL, and plastic materials such as PVC, PTFE, Polypropylene, and other, subject to future consultation.
  • Valve balls: manufactured in stainless steel 304 or 316, HASTELLOY B or HASTELLOY C, MONEL, and plastic materials such as PVC, PTFE, Polypropylene, and other, subject to future consultation.

Adjustable capacity

By means of a dial fitted gauge located on the pump’s rear, showing a scale range from 0 to 10 or 0 to 100, it is possible to throttle the pump’s capacity while in operation.

Throttling adjustments may also be effected by automatic pneumatic or electrically controls, frequency inverters and actuators. Furthermore, a reduction gear inserted between electric motor and pump makes possible reductions of 2:1, 4:1, 8:1 and 10:1, being possible, in this ultimate reduction ratio to reach 4 strokes per minute.

The liquid flow supplied by NSP/M pumps is to the pulsating type, but this pulsation may be almost eliminated by means of dampener specially developed for the NSP pumps, that may be installed accordingly to the installations needs.

Performance

The above chart indicates the nominal volumetric capacity based on piston diameter, displacement and number of strokes per minute. Capacity losses due to manufacturing tolerances, valve sealing and operation pressure are not being considered in this particular instance.

The increase in discharge pressure implies a decrease of capacity of 1,0 to 1,5% for each increase of pressure of 6.8/7.0 kg per square centimeter. Capacity losses will be greater if triple diaphragms or special arrangements are introduced with pumping head located away from pump’s body, due to increased hydraulic pressure drops.

Dimensions

The NSP/M pump bodies and bases are similar. The chart shown bellow is merely informative and should not be taken as definitive. Ask for their appropriate adjustment and sizing before effecting any project wherein dimensions of this line of pumps are involved.
